Free vs paid football tips — where your money actually goes
Almost none of it goes into research. A paid tipster is reading the same first-leg scores you are. What the fee buys is a shortlist and a stake size, delivered by someone who is not you and therefore does not care that you fancy a seventh selection.
That is a real service for some people. It is a waste of money for anyone who already keeps a record and already caps their slip at three legs. The trouble is that most punters believe they belong in the second group and the record says otherwise.

If you took one bet, Barcelona was the one. Anderlecht was the safest outcome on the card and the price reflected that; Barcelona at home to a side shut out five meetings running is where the market was still lagging.

Matches to Avoid
No away goals rule means level ties can end in extra time or penalties. Qualification markets survive that. Ninety-minute markets do not.

- Brighton v Tromsø — 0–0, and Brighton's selection in this competition is unpredictable enough to make any price a guess.
- Hapoel Tel Aviv v Atalanta — 0–0, with Hapoel's home leg played in Miskolc, Hungary. There is no home advantage to price.
- Celta Vigo v Osasuna — dropped from 16 August after a fungus outbreak left the Balaídos pitch failing inspection. A poor surface is the great leveller and you cannot see it from here.
The short answer
Do not pay anyone until you have written down a hundred of your own bets — odds, stake, market, outcome. Most punters who do that discover their selections were fine and their bet count was the problem.
